CITIZENSHIP APPLICANTS ADVISED TO VISIT MINISTRY WEBSITE FOR INTERVIEW DATE

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Interviews for Malaysian citizenship will be
conducted from Oct 12 till Oct 14.

The Home Affairs Ministry's National Registration and Organisation Unit
secretary Datin Jariah Mohd Said said that 2,303 applicants could not be
contacted by post and advised them to find out their interview date by visiting
the Home Ministry's website www.moha.gov.my under the services menu beginning
Wednesday.

She said the interview was for the second batch of applicants from 1997 till
2006 and absentees will not be given a second chance for an interview and the
ministry will proceed to process their applications.

"We tried to contact these citizenship applicants through letters sent out
by the National Registration Department to inform them of their interview but
the letters were returned as undeliverable.

"The interview is to determine their status," Jariah said.

Jariah added that under the constitution attending the interview is one of
the requirements for citizenship.

"For the first batch those who could not contacted we took out
advertisements in the newspapers. About 70 of these applicants turned up for the
interview," she said.

Jariah said applicants must inform the ministry about any change of address
after they had applied for citizenship.
