INSURGENTS ATTACK RESTAURANTS, KILLING TWO
BANGKOK, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- A policeman and a female customer were killed
when suspected insurgents attacked three restaurants during lunchtime in Sungai
Golok, a popular entertainment town on the Thailand-Malaysia border, Tuesday.
Pol Lt Col Mongkol Buajan from the Sungai Golok police station said the
incident happened when gunmen in defence volunteers' uniforms came on
motorcycles and started shooting randomly at the restaurants.
He said the gunmen also threw a grenade, killing two people and injuring 12,
including a policeman.
Another bomb was also triggered off near a hotel at noon, injuring 10
people.
More than 3,600 people had died since separatist groups resumed their armed
struggle in January, 2004 to seek independence for the three Muslim-majority
provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani.
