PUNCAK NIAGA, SWAn TO SEND 50,000 LITRES OF DRINKING WATER TO PADANG
SHAH ALAM, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd and the Water
Association of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (SWAn) will send 10,000
bottles of drinking water to earthquake victims in Padang, Sumatra.
Puncak Niaga executive chairman Rozali Ismail said the supply, which
amounts to 50,000 litres, would be sent to the disaster area in collaboration
with the National Security Division.
"The water will be sent in stages and the first batch is expected to be
delivered this week by the Malaysian Armed Forces," he told reporters at the
launch of the Padang Earthquake Humanitarian Aid at Wisma Rozali here Tuesday.
Rozali said Puncak Niaga would also send engineers to help restore the water
supply in Padang and set up a mobile water treatment system if there was a
necessity to do so.
"The system can process and refill 5,000 bottles of treated water a day," he
said.
He also said that it was important to help the victims irrespective of the
sentiment against Malaysia among the Indonesian people.
"This is a question of helping people in need," he said.
