President unveils new monument
Astana, October 08, 2009 (Khabar) - In Astana, the head of state Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the unveiling of a monument to the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Occurrence of this monument in the Kazakhstani capital was named historical and symbolical event because our country is considered the native land of ancestors for Turks. Kazakhstan-Turkish relations become stronger every year. The real indicator that Turkey is the ally, the partner and simply brotherly state for Kazakhstan, became the opening of a monument to the first President of Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Astana. The name of this person is in heart of every citizen of Turkey, thanks to Mustafa Kemal Turkey became the state respected all over the world.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- Today, we are unveiling a monument to an outstanding politician Mustafa Kemal Ataturk who entered the world history as an innovator. He refused from the emperor’s ambitions and preserved his country and territory. Now, thanks to Ataturk, Turkey is a respected and developing country which is a friend to Kazakhstan and develops multi-sided relations.
The opening of monument of “the father of all Turks” - so the name Ataturk is translated – was visited by representatives of the intelligence, famous public and political persons and Turks who work in territory of our country.
Atilla Gunay, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkish Republic in RK:
- As Kazakhstan is the native land of our ancestors, for us occurrence here of a monument to the founder of our state Ataturk is especially important. Let this monument becomes an eternal symbol of our friendship and excellent cooperation.
Ismet Yilmaz, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey:
- Ataturk, the person who has based Turkey on fragments of empire, the same as also the President of Kazakhstan who has created the young independent state after disorder of Soviet Union. Your republic and your President is an example for many as it is necessary to live and build relations with other countries.
People at the opening said that the monument in Astana is of great symbolism. According to experts, Kazakhstan is now among the leaders in Turkic countries and President Nursultan Nazarbayev has done a lot for closer relations between the Turkic nations.

- For Turkic countries, Kazakhstan is father and Turkey is mother. Our president initiated the installation of this monument which is the first one of such kind in the CIS countries.
Rauya Sapayeva, Astana resident:
- Thanks to our president, our city becomes more and more beautiful and in the future the city will be much more beautiful.
Yersain Sadvakasov, Astana resident
- It is all thanks to our president. All what he does, he does for the sake of the people.
The monument was made by a famous Kazakhstan sculptor, Bakhytzhan Abishev.
