CONTEMPORARY ART WORKS BY CROATIAN ARTISTS AT ART GALLERY

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- One hundred and forty pieces of drawings
by about 70 Croatian artists are being displayed at the Croatian Contemporary
Art Exhibition at the National Art Gallery, here to introduce Croatian art works
to Malaysians.

Croatia, a European nation situated at the meeting point between the
Mediterranean, Central Europe and the Balkans, took the initiative to feature
its art and culture through a series of art exhibitions held in 20 countries
since 2005.

Among the countries that have displayed Croatia's art works are South
Africa, China, Jordan and those in South America.

The chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Art Gallery, Abdul
Azim Mohd Zabidi, who officially opened the exhibition, said the event was
capable of attracting art lovers to visit the gallery to see for themselves the
art works being displayed.

Croatia's Ambassador to Malaysia Zeljko Bosnjak said the cultural event
would enable many Malaysians to get to know the Croatian visual art scene better
and also open new opportunities for co-operation and exchange of cultural
projects between Croatia and Malaysia.

He said the project directly contributed to bringing the cultures of
European and non-European countries closer.

The exhibition, organised jointly by the gallery and the Croatian Embassy,
will run until Oct 31 following which it will be held at the Universiti Sains
Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery, Penang from Nov 11 until Dec 13.
