BERNAMA TO EXCHANGE RADIO TV PROGRAMMES WITH CRI

By Vincent Low Seng Guan

BEIJING, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) will work with China Radio International (CRI) to jointly produce and exchange radio programmes and multimedia contents in Bahasa Malaysia, Malaysia's official language.

"We feel there are a number of areas we can cooperate, especially in radio
programmes like news, talk shows, cultural etc.

"BERNAMA's Radio 24 and BERNAMA TV can exchange or co-produce programmes
with CRI," said BERNAMA General Manager Hasnul Hassan who together with
Editor-in-Chief Yong Soo Heong visited CRI South East Asian Centre and had
preliminary discussions with its deputy director Zhang Wenwen here Sunday.

"We can even work on personnel exchange programmes between BERNAMA and CRI."

Hasnul and Yong were among participants from 170 world media organisations
at the three-day summit which started on Oct 8, and hosted by Xinhua News
Agency, at the Great Hall of the People.

During the CRI visit, Hasnul and Yong were interviewed by CRI, on matters
related to the World Media Summit.

Established in 1941, CRI is a state owned radio network that broadcasts in
59 languages to various parts of the world, providing news coverage that range
from local and international affairs.

It has since transformed from a traditional radio station broadcaster into a
modern international broadcasting institution with multimedia capabilities and
CRI is currently incorporating all mass communication means such as newspaper,
radio, television, internet and future media.

CRI had started its Bahasa Malaysia language broadcast in March 1959, with
two daily one hour programmes that include news, commentary and features on
tourism, culture, music and Chinese language learning.
