POLICE ARREST STUDENT SUSPECTED INVOLVED IN MARRIOTT, RITZ CARLTON BOMBINGS

Jakarta, Oct 12 (ANTARA) - Police said a student of the State Islamic University (UIN) in Ciputat, South Tangerang, is now in police custody for alleged involvement in the bombings of JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in South Jakarta.

Indonesian national police chief spokesman Inspector General Nanan Soekarna said in Jakarta Monday night the student known by his initial So (24) was a student of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty.

"He was caught by the West Sumatra special anti-terror police squad Densus 88 when serving as a humanitarian volunteer in helping quake victims in Padang city, and had been handed over to the Police Headquarters in Jakarta," he said.

So may have been involved in seeking a rented room for Syaifudin Jaelani and M Syahrir who have been killed during the recent Densus 88 police raid at their rented dormitory at Jl Semanggi 2, East Ciputat area.

So also told the police he already knew that the two were wanted by the police for their terrorist activities.

The police have caught 21 people for allegedly taking part in the bombings of the two star-rated hotels in Jakarta, and another suspects, Aris, had already given himself up to Temanggung police.

Of all these suspects, two were killed as suicide bombers, nine killed by the police, and the rest caught alive.***4***
