DONATIONS NEEDED TO BUY KITCHEN SETS FOR PADANG QUAKE VICTIMS - MRCS

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS)
is seeking donations amounting to RM500,000 to buy kitchen sets to be channelled
to earthquake victims in Padang, West Sumatra.

Its secretary-general Maj Gen (Rtd) Megat Mohd Yusof Megat Mahmud said the
sets costing RM110 each and containing cups, plates, saucers and bowls were
badly needed by the victims. (US$1=RM3.40)

"The victims are now going through the rehabilitation stage and these sets
are very important to continue with their daily lives," he told reporters after
receiving a donation of RM10,000 from Takaful Ikhlas for Padang earthquake
victims, here today.

Takaful Ikhlas was represented by its president and chief executive officer
Datuk Syed Moheeb Syed Kamarulzaman.

The kitchen sets are to be distributed to 500 families in Padang city and
Pariaman.
