Savannakhet University opens

(KPL) Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh on 12 October opened Savannakhet University, the fifth university of the country.
The university is located at Kaysone Phomvihane district.
Minister of Education, Prof, Dr. Somkot Mangnormek said that the establishment of Savannakhet University conformed to the plan on expanding opportunities to education of the government for the Lao people mostly from central provinces of Khammouane, Borikhamsay and Savannakhet.
Initially, Savannakhet University has three faculties including Agriculture and Environment, Business Administration and Trade and Linguistics and Anthropology.
Subjects to be provided at these faculties include agriculture, animal husbandly and veterinary, environment, trade, transportation and service, hotel and tourism administration, English language, French and information technology (IT).
Savannakhet Governor Vilayvanh Phomkhe said that the establishment of the university is to ensure the national education development.
There are five universities in the country including National University of Laos, Health Science University (Vientiane Capital), Souphanouvong University (Luang Prabang province), Champassak University (Champassak province) and Savannakhet University (Savannakhet province).
Vice President of Savannakhet University, Prof, Dr. Bounpong Keorodom said that the university would receive around 400 to 600 students in this academic year 2009-2010.
