Athens hosts OSCE PA session
Athens, October 13, 2009 (Khabar) - “How to use natural resources for the good of humanity progress and security” was the theme of the conference entitled “Energy security and environment” and held in Athens, Greece. The autumn session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly also featured a Kazakhstan delegation headed by the Republic’s Senate Speaker and vice-speaker of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev.
Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan Senate Speaker:
- Being realists, we clearly realize that renewable energy sources cannot replace hydrocarbons and other sources. And it is very important to cut the imbalance in the world energy structure. Such a task can be applied to Kazakhstan. This is why, in June 2009, the Republic’s Parliament passed the law on alternative sources of energy.
The Eurasian Commission for renewing EU regional strategy priorities will be assisting the development of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan. This goes in line with the Way to Europe state programme, said the Kazakhstan Senate Speaker. Kazakhstan has a task of studying Europe’s top experience in energy saving and environmentally friendly technologies.

- Thereupon I wish you to pay your attention to the project of creation of the Solar centre on renewed resources and energy sources in Almaty. The atomic engineering also should become an alternative energy source and simultaneously a resource of restraint of dynamics of global warming and climate change.
At discussion floors, Kazakhstan’s parliamentarians alongside their counterparts discussed how to effectively solve such issues. Kazakhstan is the first CIS state which adopted the Ecological Code. The country is now also implementing the 2015 Ecological safety concept. The Republic also has its official list of ecological issues. Kazakhstan has already addressed the world asking for the creation of the world list.

- The parliamentary assembly of OSCE is exclusively authoritative tribune on which it is not just necessary to bring up these questions. They can affect change of new relations of interstate relations, especially on those processes which are necessary now in general for progress.
The activity of Kazakhstan’s delegation at the parliamentary assemble session in Athens showed the world the readiness of a young state for a new and honorary and responsible function – the 2010 presidency in the OSCE. The chairman of the OSCE PA Zhoao Soaresh has expressed confidence that Kazakhstan will successfully carry out this mission. Achievements of Kazakhstan for years of independence under the direction of Nursultan Nazarbayev have been noted also by the President of Greece during a meeting with the speaker of the Senate. Successful carrying out of congress of world and traditional religions in Astana, opening of embassy of Kazakhstan in Greece and bilateral cooperation in OSCE format became a conversation subject also. Karolos Papoulias has wished successes Kazakhstan in forthcoming presidency in OSCE.
