E JAVA, FRANCE TO COOPERATE IN ECONOMIC, HR DEVELOPMENT
Surabaya, E Java, Oct 14 (ANTARA) - The East Java provincial administration and French government have agreed to cooperate in economic as well as human resources development or HRD.
The cooperation agreement was formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding or MoU signed by East Java Governor Soekarwo and French Ambassador to Indonesia M Phillipe Zeller at the Grahadi building here on Wednesday.
"I am very happy to be here to sign the MoU. This is important to meet the East Java provincial government's hope to run the technical cooperation and institutions, both the government and the private," Zeller said.
The envoy also expressed hope that the cooperation would be sustainable and comprehensive so that it could help increase economic growth in East Java.
The East Java provincial government had also forged cooperation with the Belgian government for infrastructure development in the region.
Another MoU on cooperation between the East Java province and the Thai government was also signed for horticulture development, especially mango cultivation in Gresik district.
Meanwhile, Governor Soekarwo said the security situation in East Java now was relatively conducive. "It (the security situation) was tested by three rounds of gubernatorial election, but East Java has remained safe," Soekarwo said.
In relation with the threat of terrorism, East Java had also been declared safe, he said. "Of course, many terrorists are from Java, but do not worry, East Java is safe from the threat of terrorism," Soekarwo said.
In fact, economic growth in East Java had recently risen from 5 percent to 7 percent or higher than the national economic growth figure.
"I think this meeting is very useful. We are destined to meet and sign a memorandum of understanding to build a commitment to increase economic growth," he added. ***2***
