M'SIAN IMMIGRATION CONFIRMS DETAINING FORMER IRAQI MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Immigration Department
Friday confirmed that it had detained former Iraqi Member of Parliament,
Mohammed al-Daini, on Oct 10 for using false travel documents.
Immigration Director-General Abdul Rahman Othman said he was detained at the
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
"He is still being detained as we are waiting for new travel documents from
the Iraqi embassy before he is sent back," he said when contacted by Bernama
here.
An English-language tabloid daily today reported that the former MP, who
went into hiding for eight months after being accused of ordering a bomb attack
in the Iraqi parliament's canteen in 2007, was arrested in Malaysia.
Abdul Rahman said the case was being investigated under Section 12 of the
Passport Act 1966.
