POLICE POSTPONE CONFISCATION OF KPK DOCUMENTS
Jakarta, Oct 16 (ANTARA) - Police postponed a plan to confiscate documents at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters on Friday.
"The confiscation plan has been postponed until next Monday," head of KPK's legal affairs Khaidir Ramly said.
Khaidir said he did not know the reason behind the postponement.
According to him, the documents to be confiscated were not fully related to the cases of suspended KPK vice chairmen Bibit Samad Riyanto and Chandra M Hamzah whom the police have named suspects in abuse of authority cases.
Based on KPK's data, he said, some documents to be confiscated were not linked to the two KPK vice chairmen's case of alleged power abuse.
As an example, he said, among the items to be confiscated was a laptop belonging to former KPK chief Antasari Azhar. This is irrelevant because the case being investigated by the police is an alleged power abuse, he said.
The lawyers of Bibit Samad and Chandra Hamzah considered the police's plan strange. "We believe the case is engineered," one of the lawyers, Bambang Widjojanto, said.
The lawyers had earlier said they had data to prove that the case was engineered.
Bambang suspected the police planned to confiscate the documents for use to support a bribery scenario to be charged against the two KPK vice chairmen because the documents to be confiscated included a guest registry from 2008 to 2009 when Ary Muladi and Eddy Sumarsono visited the KPK.
Ary and Eddy are the persons suspected to have played a role in delivering the bribe to KPK chairmen.
Bambang said the allegation was groundless because the KPK vice chairmen did not know or had never met with Ary and Eddy.
Another thing that was strange was the charge which was initially bribery by businessmen Anggoro Widjoo and Anggodo Widjojo but later changed to extortion.
Bambang said "the confiscation could be for manipulation purposes because initially the charge was bribery but then it was changed to extortion. For what. It is done to save Anggoro and Anggodo," he said.***4***
