Tactical exercises held in Almaty region
Almaty, October 16, 2009, Khabar - As part of a scenario for the collective rapid response forces of the Collective Security treaty held in Almaty, a group of terrorists who illegally entered a chemical plant has been detained in the Almaty region with terrorist groups eliminated in the steppe and mountains as well as a number of extremists who captured a passenger bus. The final stage of the exercise was witnessed by President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Dmitriy Medvedev, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Emomali Rakhmon and Serj Sargsian all of whom arrived at the war games wearing special uniforms. The total area of the firing ground is 114 thousand hectares. According to the exercise scenario, one of the CST couriers was threatened. The air force was the first to open fire with artillery and field troops joining the battle later. Such a massive offensive destroyed the enemy completely. The next stage stipulated the elimination of an armed group of terrorists in the mountains which was perfectly fulfilled by the airborne troops. The most complicated part of the scenario was the elimination of a gang who was holding a chemical plant.

- Everything we see at these exercises is the height level. Every state has delegated elite parts to Collective Forces. These are brigades of special assignment, air forces, and best subdivisions of emergency ministries. And there are no questions from the point of equipment.
The decision to create Collective Forces of operational reacting was taken last year during the informal summit of OCST heads in Borovoe. It was legally approved in Moscow. The main aim of the forces is cooperated defense in case of military threat, and also struggle against terrorism, extremism.
Mukhtar Altynbayev, chairman, Committee of headquarters of Kazakhstan:
- More than 14 000 military men, 107 flying apparatus, 87 plains of Kazakhstan and 27 of Russia were involved in exercises.
Alihan Zharbolov, commander of regional command “South”:
- For the first time in the history of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces one of the military units went a march of 380 kilometers length.
Pushtar Bakalchiyev, senior lieutenant of Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan:
- Kazakhstan’s military men showed very good preparation and very good arming.
Sergey Shemanin, sergeant, Russia:
- Mastery is that almost every shot gets to aim.
It was also the first large-scale demonstration of the battle potential of the Collective Security Forces. At the end of the Interaction 2009 war games, the President of Kazakhstan said the tactical exercises involving the Rapid Response Forces of the Collective Security Treaty should be held regularly. Nursultan Nazarbayev also held a high opinion of the tactical exercises and stated that all member-states and military units had prepared for the event well and completed all the objectives successfully.
