“Poacher” preventive action

Semei, October 17, 2009 (Khabar) - Since the beginning of the year policemen of Eastern Kazakhstan have instituted proceedings against 6 law offenders for illegal woods felling. Five poachers have already been condemned to different terms of imprisonment. In order to stop illegal woods destroying an action “Poacher” has been organized on the territory of Pavlodar and Eastern Kazakhstan regions. Special group of representatives of ministry of Internal affairs and agriculture has come from Astana. They have flied around forest by helicopter and after that tried to know where from and how woods that lay on locals’ yards have been delivered. Now the experts are in Koyanbay village. Earlier they have arrested a lorry with 6 cubic meters of wood; about 500 boards were confiscated from one of the inhabitants. Inspectors say that some village citizens show resistance.

- Last year there were 2 attacks on avian group in Pavlodar region, pilots-observers were hit, and their money has been robbed. Police of Pavlodar region investigate this case.

90 facts of illegal woods felling have been registered in Eastern Kazakhstan in 2009. Inspectors from Astana have decided to make this action regular.
