TRADE MISSIONS TO BANGLADESH & MALDIVES ATTRACTS INTEREST IN HEALTHCARE & CONSTRUCTION
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development
Corporation's (Matrade) recent specialised marketing missions (SMM)to Bangladesh
and Maldives, attracted strong interest in the quality and capability of
Malaysia's healthcare and construction services sectors respectively.
The Matrade SMM mission for the healthcare sector to Bangladesh was from Oct
4-7 and the construction services sector in Maldives from Oct 12-15.
In a statement here Monday, Matrade said the SMM to Bangladesh was organised
in response to a growing demand for private healthcare amongst a increasing and
affluent segment of that country's population.
According to Matrade, representatives from three Malaysian private hospitals,
three healthcare services and medical product companies, had 98 business
meetings and on-site follow-up visits arranged during the two-day event.
Opportunities identified in Bangladeshs' healthcare services sector included
patient referrals, DNA testing, medical equipment maintenance, hospital
management and operations, clinical waste, medical disposables and medical waste
disposal services, it said.
Matrade also said the SMM to Maldives, the first to that country, was
organised in response to the growing demand for new housing, resorts and
infrastructure development there.
The SMM identified ample opportunities in Maldives for Malaysian companies.
This included the contruction of power stations (estimated at US$4.4
billion), 65 resorts (estimated at US$2.5 billion), houses on 156 islands
(estimated at US$260 million), 50 km of roads (estimated at US$40 million) and
harbours (estimated at US$3 million).
Members of the Malaysian mission had 79 business discussions with
representatives of the Maldivian authorities and business community through
one-on-one business meetings organised by Matrade.
Matrade said Malaysian companies are already involved in some
projects in Maldives, especially in the construction of resorts and hotels as
well as sub-contracted works.
"The South Asian nations offer tremendous new market opportunities for
Malaysian companies," Matrade chief executive officer, Datuk Noharuddin Nordin
said.
