S. Korea, Malaysia agree to rev up cooperation in defense industry
SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Malaysia agreed Monday to strengthen
their cooperation in the defense industry and promote defense exchanges,
government officials said.
The agreement came at a meeting between South Korean Defense Minister Kim
Tae-young and his Malaysian counterpart, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
During the talks, the two military leaders agreed that Seoul and Kuala Lumpur
will work together closely to help the Southeast Asian country push ahead with
its projects to beef up its defense capabilities, officials at the Ministry of
Defense said.
"The South Korean government will give support to the Malaysian projects with
keen interest," Kim was quoted as saying at the talks. Hamidi had asked Kim to
throw his support behind South Korean defense companies' ventures into the
Malaysian market, according to the officials.
At the invitation of the South Korean minister, Hamidi arrived in Seoul on Sunday
for a five-day trip to meet South Korean military leaders.
