DR MAHATHIR WARNS MALAYS AGAINST BEING TAKEN IN BY GLOBALISATION
PUTRAJAYA, Oct 20(Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has
cautioned the people, especially the Malays, not to be taken in by globalisation
as introduced by Western orientalists, saying it is an indirect form of
subjugation that can destroy the civilisation of a race.
Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said in the era of a globalised
world, conquest and subjugation would not require military strength, but instead
would depend more on idealistic ideologies, with globalisation being the main
weapon.
Hence, he said the people should not take their chances impulsively without
analysing all aspects in the concept of a world without border.
"We must understand clearly what is the meaning of this 'world without
border', including its effects and advantages to our country, so that we will
not be trapped in it.
"I believe there is a hidden agenda behind this. If we just absorb it
impulsively, we will probably lose our independence."
He said this in a lecture entitled "Strategies to Uplift the Status of the
Malays in a World Without Border" at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, here
Monday.
The event was organised by the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Alumni
Association.
Dr Mahathir said Malay empowerment in various fields of life could also give
a higher value for the people to uplift their status.
He said among the values that needed to be given priority was the attitude
to hard work, which could prevent corruption from being rampant.
"The Malays should also ensure that their political power stays strong and
stable so that their rights and privileges will not vanish easily," he said.
