RI AMBASSADOR SIGNS BRAUNSCHWEIG'S GOLDEN BOOK
London, Oct 21 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Eddy Pratomo has signed Brunshweig's Golden Book at the town's City Hall to mark both parties' desire to further enhance Indonesia-Braunschweig cooperative relations.
The signing of the golden book was done to further boost relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Braunschweig in Germany's Niedersachsen state, said Agus Priono, counsellor at the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin, on Wednesday.
He said Braunschweigh had since 1960 been cooperating with Bandung (West Java's provincial capital), and this relationship was the first of its kind between cities in Southeast Asia and those in Europe.
Vice Mayor of Braunschweig, Mrs. Kukelhahn welcomed the Golden Book's signing by Pratomo and said he was the very first Indonesian official to do so.
Mrs. Kukelhahn also hailed the cooperation between Indonesia and Braunschweig over the years which among other things resulted in the holding of a Braunschweigh cultural show in Indonesia in cooperation with the Indonesian community residing in the city.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Pratomo said he hoped cooperation between Indonesia and Braunschweig could be expanded to also cover tourism and human resources development.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Bandung-Braunschweig cooperative relationship, a seminar on Indonesia and its cultural heritage would be held in Braunschweig and a seminar on Germany's culture would be organized in Bandung soon.
At the signing of Braunschweig's golden book, Ambassador Pratomo was accompanied by the Indonesian consul general in Hamburg, Teuku Darmawan.
The Indonesian officials later met with the Braunschweig mayor and local businessmen grouped in the chamber of commerce, the industries federation, academia and a group called "Friends of Indonesia."
The event was also marked by reviews of two books titled "The Cry of the Geckos" and "18 Years in Indonesia : A wealth of Experiences", said Agus Priono.
