PM LAUNCHES 'READINGS ON DEVELOPMENT: Malaysia 2057'

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak on Wednesday launched the book, "Readings on Development: Malaysia 2057".

The book, a collection of essays, is a second in the Khazanah Merdeka Series
(KMS), a Khazanah Nasional initiative comprising talks, seminar and a forum to
foster a culture of knowledge-building and sharing. Kazanah Nasional is the
investment holding arm of the Government of Malaysia.

The first book was Khazanah Merdeka Series: A Year in Pictures 2007/2008.

The book, which was published in 2008, captured both the words and moods
of the KMS.

The choice of 'Malaysia 2057' in the title was to provide the juxtaposition
- 50 years ahead after a 50-year journey.

"We wanted to gather a broader spectrum of Malaysian voices under the same
theme of development to interpret how we arrived at where we are today and how
we should move forward as a country," Dr Nungsari Ahmad Radhi and Suryani Senja
Alias said in the second book's editors' note.

Among the contributors to the second book are former Prime Minister Dr
Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia's renown personalities, such as Azman Mokhtar, G.K.
Rama Iyer, Musa Hitam, Amir Muhammad, and squash queen Nicol David.

The launching was held in conjunction with Khazanah Global Lectures by
Sir John Bond, chairman of Vodafone Group plc.
