GOVT MAY USE NUCLEAR TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY IN 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The government was looking into the option
to use nuclear to generate electricity by 2025 as a long-term solution to the
country's energy requirement, the Lower House of Parliament was told Thursday.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui said based on
preliminary findings, the country could not depend on its existing power
resources namely gas, hydro and coal.
"We should not dismiss the possibility of using nuclear to generate
electricity," he said.
Chin said that for a start, the government would study the country's
capabilities and preparedness in implementing nuclear power generation
programme.
"We are looking into various aspects in terms of the law, monitoring, human
resources development and so on," he said.
