Festival of Ukrainian culture
Atyrau, October 22, 2009 (Khabar) - Atyrau has witnessed the establishment of the memorial plaque with the name of the famous Ukrainian writer and poet Taras Shevchenko, who lived at the territory of Kazakhstan for ten years. Additionally, Atyrau witnessed a festival which was devoted to the memory of the writer.
Alexander Nikonchyuk, press-attache, Ukrainian embassy in Kazakhstan
- I am convinced that the memorial plaque will bring part of the Ukrainian national spirit and contribute to the development of friendly relations.
Alexander Nikonchyuk said that it is the 8th memorial unit in Kazakhstan devoted to the memory of Taras Shevchenko. In the near future it is planned to unveil a monument in Astana. Kiev is currently witnessing the creation of the monument to Zhambyl Zhabayev. Also, people of Atyrau participated in the festival devoted to the memory of the famous kobza player. The festival involved creative teams called “Dovira”, “Oksana” and Taras Shevchenko national and cultural centres from Atyrau, Aktobe and Mangystau regions.
The audience particularly liked the performance of Dmitriy Mamykin, who performed a musical composition of different nations.
Yevgeniy Mamykin, student:
- I like songs of different nations very much, because by means of songs I am studying the culture of nations who live in the territory of Kazakhstan.
Semen Ioseliani, head of Iveriya ensemble:
- I was glad to participate in the festival. The famous Georgian proverb says that one, who doesn’t look for a friend, is an enemy to oneself. Let all our friends always participate in such holidays. The peace is where friends are.
