MALAYSIA HEADS ROAD ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION OF ASIA AND AUSTRALASIA




KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The director-general of Public Works
Department (PWD) Prof Dr Judin Abdul Karim has been appointed as the
president of Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA) at the
association's 13th general meeting held last month in Incheon City, South Korea.

According to a statement from the PWD Corporate Communications Department
here today, Dr Judin is the president for the next three years starting October
2009 till September 2012, replacing Dr Kyong Soo-Suryoo from South Korea.

The meeting also appointed PWD Road Facilities Maintenance director Hamizan
Mohd Inzan as the association's honorary secretary for the same
duration.

Dr Judin said his appointment was a recognition to this country and at the
same time acknowledging the contributions by the Road Engineering Association of
Malaysia (REAM) in promoting engineering pertaining to roads in Malaysia.


"I will promote REAAA'S functions as an association that promotes road
technology and transportation in Asia and Oceania ," he said in the statement.

REAAA was formed in June 1973 with a registered membership of 1,600
comprising 40 countries.

The association provides technology exchange, transfer and service to
promote engineering pertaining to roads in Asia Pacific region.
