Archeological research in Syrdarya

Kyzylorda, October 26, 2009 (Khabar) - The territory along the Syrdarya River bank represents inexhaustible and rich material for studies, according to Russian scientists who have taken part in the archeological dig in this place together with their Kazakh colleagues.
As part of the state “Cultural heritage” program, scientists of the Alkey Margulan Institute of Archeology worked at the sites of ancient settlements, such as Shirik Rabat, Zhankent, Syganak, Asanas as well as the Kederi mausoleum which was discovered at the bottom of the dried-up Aral Sea in 2001.
Scientists noted that previously, such ancient town monuments as palaces, fountains, arches and burial sites of rulers were studied and protected whereas now, the everyday lives and households of common people are being given considerably greater attention.

Zholdasbek Kurmankulov, department head of Margulan Institute of Archeology, National Academy of Science of Kazakhstan:
- During the course of six years, we’ve attained a good number of discoveries. Items brought from Mesopotamia, Egypt and China have been found here. All of this points to the fact that the Turan lowland was developing alongside all the other centres of civilizations of the East and Central Asia in the 1st millennium BC.
