MALAYSIA WINS BID TO HOST 14TH ASIA-PACIFIC MEDICAL CONGRESS IN 2012
KUCHING (Malaysia), Oct 29 (Bernama) -- East Malaysia state of Sarawak has secured the hosting of the 14th Asia-Pacific Congress of Paediatrics (APCP) in 2012 after Malaysia won the bid in Shanghai, China early this month, Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) Regional Manager Geoffrey Lee said Thursday.
He said the four-day event, scheduled in September 2012, was anticipated to
generate a revenue of over RM3.9 million (US$1.1 million) for the local
hospitality and tourism sector as some 1,450 national and international
participants would converge for meetings.
" Hosting this Asia-Pacific Congress will help add to the credibility of
Sarawak as a new hub for international medical congress and the bureau will
continue to assist the organiser to market the conference not only nationally
but also internationally," he said in a statement here.
The winning bid is a credit to the collaborative efforts of the Malaysian
Paediatric Association (MPA) and SCB.
Meanwhile, MPA former president Dr. Zulkifli Ismail said the association was
very pleased to win the bid for Malaysia and to organise the event in Kuching.
" We hope that we can make a difference to the public health care system
whereby our next generation will benefit from with the support from the city and
state government, we are positive that the delegates will have a
once-in-a-lifetime experience during their stay at this unique destination," he
said.
MPA organised the 5th Asian Congress of Paediatrics in 1985.
