MAF MEDICAL TEAM READY FOR DUTY AT LIMA '09
LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Oct 29 (Bernama) -- For the first time ever, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) will handle medical services during the Langkawi International Aerospace & Maritime Exhibition 2009 (LIMA '09) at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) from Dec 1 to 5.
LIMA '09 medical operations director Brg-Gen Dr Samiran Sarijan said
96 officers and personnel, including 20 doctors and medical specialists from
various MAF units will be deployed throughout the event.
"A field hospital capable of housing 150 beds will be set up at the MIEC,
which will be the main hall for the air show segment," he told reporters after a
search and rescue training (SAREX LIMA 09) here Wednesday.
He said the medical team will cooperate with the Health Ministry's medical
unit to handle emergency cases including the possibility of patients who need to
be flown to hospitals in northern cities of Alor Setar or Penang.
Meanwhile, SAREX LIMA 09 training director Brig-Gen Ansar Ali Majeth said
the two-day Sarex training went well and tested the effectiveness and efficiency
of government agencies to overcome emergency situations.
He said over 300 officers and personnel from 20 agencies including Malaysia
Airlines (Mas) and Air Asia took part in the training fully conducted by the
Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and the Civil Aviation Department.
LIMA 09 will see the participation of 330 companies from 24 countries which
will display 53 types of aircraft and 71 fighter planes. Among the attraction
for the air show are the Apache AH-64 twin-engine attack helicopter, and F-16
jet fighter from Singapore and a B-52 long-range, heavy bomber owned by the
United States military.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency will also be doing a water bombing
demonstration using its Bombardier CL-415 amphibious aircraft.
