MDEC TO HOLD MSC MALAYSIA DIGITAL CONTENT CONFERENCE

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC)
is organising the MSC Malaysia Kre8tif! Digital Content Conference to provide a
platform for the exchange of insights and expertise on digital content and
emerging media among the local and international creative communities.

The conference, the first of its kind in Malaysia, will be held here from
Dec 7 to 9 with the theme "Infinite Minds, Unlimited Passion", which highlights
the vast opportunities that abound, resulting from the meeting of over 20
international and local experts in the field coupled with raw talent. MSC stands
for Multimedia Super Corridor, now renamed MDeC.

"The idea of having the Kre8tif! conference originated from the desire to
further promote and develop the digital creative content industry, while
profiling Malaysia as a strategic location to identify potential collaboration
opportunities, recruit talent, outsource and engage with co-production
partners," said MDeC vice president of the industry development division, Saifol
Shamlan.

The three-day event is expected to attract over 500 participants from
Malaysia's digital creative content industry and discussions will focus on
four key areas of digital arts, games, visual effects and emerging media, he
told reporters here Thursday.

Highlights will include keynote addresses by thought-leaders and industry
experts, networking sessions, business and technical workshops, company
portfolio showcases and exhibitions, and screening of professional works.

"We are confidence that this will be a starting point for other similar
conferences in time to come," Saifol said.

He said that conference participants could expect to engage with well-known
personalities such as David Abramowitz, producer and writer of popular
television series "21 Jump Street", "V" and "Macgyver" as well as the creative
force behind the hit TV series "Highlander", and European Games Developer
Federation chairman Guillaume de Fondaumiere, who is also co-chief executive
producer of Quantic Dream which produced "Fahrenheit", a critically acclaimed
adventure game.

Registration for the conference is open from Oct 29 and those interested can
either register online or download the registration form at
www.mscmalaysia.my/topic/kre8tif.

The programme line-up extends to the MSC Malaysia Creative Industry Awards
Night to recognise outstanding Malaysians for creative works in their
specialised fields, Saifol said.

Additionally, the Malaysian chapter of the X|Media|Lab (XML) will take place
on Dec 10 and 11 in Putrajaya, functioning as the mentorship arm of the Kre8tif!
conference.

X|Media|Lab's founder and director Brendan Harkin said a total of 16
international and local mentors would be present to provide mentorship
opportunities and first-hand exposure to participants of the programme.

"This an excellent avenue for participants to learn from key players in the
international arena, and the conference also serves as an avenue for sharing of
local expertise and experiences in developing digital content and businesses,"
he said.

Australia-based X|Media|Lab is an international professional network and
digital media event for the world's creative industries. It specialises in
creating high-value professional networks between the emergent creative
industries in China, India, the Middle East and Asia.
