Lao World to provide foods during SEA Games 2009

(KPL) The Lao World Company has committed to providing a wide range of high quality nutritious food for athletes staying at the SEA Games Village during the 25th SEA Games.
Standing Deputy Prime Minister and SEA Games Organising Committee Chairman, Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, and members of all SEA Games committees last Sunday attended the food tasting event to ensure that the company is able to provide food for the athletes during the games.
“Ingredients would be sourced from Vientiane and Champassak, Saravan, Xayaboury and Luang Prabang provinces,” said General Manager of the Lao World Company, Mr Souliyong Youivanivong.
Mr Souliyong said the food provided to athletes was to be healthy and nutritious and be prepared under recommendations from experts from various government departments.
The Forestry Department, Ministry of Forest and Agriculture, will make sure that farmers provide vegetables planted through organic methods and the Department of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, will inspect slaughterhouses to ensure that appropriate standards are imposed.
The canteen will provide nine to eleven different dishes everyday during the games, including regional and European foods. Dining times will be from 6-10am, 11am-3pm, 5-8pm and 9-10pm. More Lao traditional food is expected to be added in the menu after some committee members asked for more Lao food and regional dishes.
The SEA Games Village will accommodate more than 4,000 athletes from the region who will participate in the games in December.
