M'SIA SETS UP SPECIAL UNIT TO ADDRESS CASES OF MAID ABUSE

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- A special unit has been set up under the Federal Criminal Investigation Department to find the best way to address cases of maid abuse in the country.

Malaysia's Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said Thursday the
unit would also have representatives from several ministries.

It would also look into the case of Indonesian maid Mantik Hani, 36, who
died on Monday following alleged physical abuse by her employer couple.

"The (home) minister has directed the police to do their level best to bring
justice for the victim (maid)," he told reporters after the presentation of a
personal condolence letter from Prime Minister Najib Razak to ASP Lim Ken Ang
and his wife ASP Lee May Yuen, here.

Boon Jim, 18, the youngest son of Lim and Lee, who was a student at Cornell
University in New York, was found dead in his dormitory at the university on Oct
19.
