Visiting session of state commission for economic modernization
Shymkent, October 30, 2009 (Khabar) - The South Kazakhstan region has witnessed a visiting session of the state commission for modernization of the economy, which was conducted by the prime minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov. The session started at the “Khimpharm” company. Members of the government became acquainted with the work of the enterprise, which produces the major part of Kazakhstan’s medicine. However, currently Kazakhstan’s residents consume only 33% of production of local manufacturers.
Agriculture is also quite a prospective area. Officials of the country are to implement several plans, resulting in an increase in the crop area in the South Kazakhstan region, which is using drip irrigation. It is planned that within two years, the crop areas will reach 50 thousand hectares.
Umirzak Shukeyev, deputy Prime Minister of RK:
- First of all, due to KazAgro, we are to construct enterprises and train farmers. This method worked very well in the South Kazakhstan region. For instance, currently we are constructing hothouses and installing drip irrigation systems. I believe that this method is best suited for our agriculture.
By 2014 the agricultural projects will have decreased the imports of meat to 50% and of dairy products to 22%.
The travel business is also considered to be very profitable.
Ali Bektayev, deputy head of South Kazakhstan region:
- The region has such cultural and architectural monuments as the Kozha Akhmet Yassavi mausoleum in Turkestan as well as the cities of Otrar and Altyn-tobe, which are situated on the Silk Way. We can construct modern historical complexes on the basis of these monuments.
Karim Massimov, Prime Minister of RK:
- By the end of this year we need to develop a programme to boost industrialization. We are to divide the economy into sectors and work with real plans, real opportunities and real money.
Members of the government consider that such meetings will assist in defining the most prospective directions in the creation of the industrial base of the economy and defining problematic sectors.
