Asian Film Festival in Rome
Rome, November 05, 2009 (Khabar) - The Asian film festival is being held in Rome. This anniversary forum opened with a screening of “The gift to Stalin” film by Kazakh director Rustem Abdrashev. This touching story of a Jewish boy Sasha became known to many countries in the world.
Rustem Abdrashev, director:
- Apart from the boy, there were other people who lived on this land. Kazakhstan was a state with predominantly Kazakh people residing in it until the 30s. During the period of Stalinist repressions a large number of people were exiled and as a result, we are living in a large multi-national state today. This is the history of our country and our people.
- The film is great. It’s very emotional and we liked it very much.
- The film is about feelings and it’s thought-provoking. It’s a good motion picture.
- It’s an amazing film. It’s very delicate and wonderful. It’s one of the best ones I’ve seen over the past 10 years.
“The gift to Stalin” is only the third film by Abdrashev. His debut work entitled “Renaissance Island” was presented at the Asian film festival two years ago as well. The Asian cinematography earned the status of elite film maker at a world level long ago.
Italo Spinelli, festival director:
- Rustem Abdrashev is one of the most interesting Kazakh directors not only for his country but for the world audience as well. Kazakhstan’s cinematography is very interesting. It is coming into notice in the world and obtaining the recognition of Europe.
