MITI TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ALL VIEWS ON NAP
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of International Trade and
Industry (MITI) will take into account all comments and views on the new
National Automotive Policy (NAP).
Its Minister Mustapa Mohamed said the public need not be alarmed as various
stakeholders would be consulted before the implementation of the new
regulations.
"We will implement it in phases and also consult stakeholders," he said
here Thursday.
Mustapa was responding to Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's
statement on Wednesday, asking MITI to look into complaints about the new NAP
regulations and preparing a report.
Among the complaints is the plan to have mandatory checks for vehicles above
15 years old. This has received mixed feedback from the public.
The proposal is among the 18 new measures under the NAP to improve the
competitiveness of the local automotive industry as well as to ensure safer and
more-environmentally-friendly vehicles.
Mustapa said all feedbacks have been compiled since the announcement of the
reviewed NAP, and that the ministry was monitoring closely the situation.
"Some have written to us, some sent letters to editors. We will consult the
stakeholders and decisions will be made as soon as possible," he explained.
Asked on the probability of another review of the NAP, he said the public
views were important.
As the NAP will be enforced in January, there is no hurry to it, he added.
"I would like to assure the public is very important as well as the safety
and security.
"Next couple of weeks, we will come out with post mortem, a kind of post
announcement in this matter," he said.
