KOREA-MALAYSIA TRADE CAN BE IMPROVED FURTHER

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- There is still considerable room for
enhancing bilateral trade and investment between South Korea and Malaysia,
Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Heng Seai Kie said
Wednesday.

Total imports from South Korea to Malaysia for the first six months of 2009
stood at RM8.78 billion (US$2.59 billion) while total exports from Malaysia
amounted to only RM12.16 billion (US$3.59 billion), she said at the Korea
Chungnam Products Show and Business Meeting held here Wednesday.

"The strength of Korea's exports to Malaysia can be seen by the popularity
of Hyundai, LG, Samsung and other leading Korean brands here," she said.

Heng said shows and business meetings such as Wednesday's event could
facilitiate and enhance the two-way economic relations between Chungnam Province
and Malaysia.

"It is hoped that this event would be used by the private sectors of both
Korea and Malaysia to further strengthen linkages and develop networking for
mutual benefit," she said.

She also encouraged the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency to work
closely with trade and investment associations in Malaysia as well as other
relevant agencies to further strengthen bilateral ties.
