CHINESE PRESIDENT ENDS VISIT TO MALAYSIA
SEPANG, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Chinese President Hu Jintoa departed for
Singapore at the KL International Airport (KLIA) here Wednesday, after
concluding a two-day visit to Malaysia.
On hand to send Hu and his wife, Liu Yongqing, off were Transport Minister
Ong Tee Keat and Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Chee Leong.
Their aircraft lifted off at about 4.35pm.
During the two-day visit, Hu had an audience with King Tuanku Mizan Zainal
Abidin, received a call from Prime Minister Najib Tun Abdul Razak and met Najib
in Putrajaya, where they agreed to work together to explore new areas of growth,
enhance strategic cooperation and increase bilateral trade and investment
linkages.
Hu and Najib also witnessed the signing of five memorandums of
understanding (MoU) between the two countries on cooperation in banking, higher
education and in the sewerage services industry and loans relating to the Penang (a
northern state in Peninsular Malaysia) second bridge project.
The last visit by a Chinese head of state to Malaysia was in November 1994
by former president Jiang Zemin. This is Hu's second visit to Malaysia, the
first being in May 2002 when he was vice-president.
