BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA AND SARAWAK KEEN TO STEP UP COLLABORATION
KUCHING (Malaysia), Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Bosnia Herzegovina is keen to collaborate with East Malaysia state of Sarawak in various sectors, especially in trade, development of energy production and the halal food hub.
Its President Dr Haris Silajdzic said Bosnia Herzegovina in the Southeast
Europe could be a gateway for the state to tap the European Union (EU) market in
various sectors.
"There are many areas that Bosnia Herzegovina and Sarawak can continue to
move forward together. We can especially collaborate in the area of energy," he
said when giving an address of appreciation at the State Legislative Assembly
here, the capital of Sarawak, Wednesday.
Dr Silajdzic said Bosnia Herzegovina is the only country in the southeast
Europe that exports energy while Sarawak's ambition is to be the next exporter
of energy.
"There is much to be learnt by both sides. In Bosnia Herzegovina, it is
mainly hydro potential and thermo potential," he said.
Besides that, Dr Silajdzic said Bosnia Herzegovina would like to explore the
halal food sector in European market.
"We would like to look into the halal food sector. There is a halal hub in
Sarawak. We hope the largest halal park in Europe will be at Bosnia Herzegovina.
We can work on it together," he said.
"Therefore, there is a need to develop close cooperation. I'm pleased that a
memorandum of understanding is signed at the Malaysia Global Business Forum here
Wednesday," he added.
Dr Silajdzic urged more Malaysians to participate in Bosnia Herzegovina's
Islamic banking.
"Bosnia Herzegovina has the most stable currency in Southeast Europe and a
strong banking sector. We would like to see more participation from Malaysia and
Bosnia Herzegovina in Syariah-compliant financial service to complement the
existing participation from the Middle East," he said.
Dr Silajdzic also said that Malaysia and Bosnia Herzegovina should look at
the air transportation between both countries.
"We would like to see Malaysia's national carrier Malaysia Airlines or
low-cost carrier AirAsia looking into the feasibility to fly to Bosnia
Herzegovina, following the air agreement signed early this year," he said.
