N. Korea calls naval skirmish 'conspiracy' by South Korean military

by Kim Hyun

SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Yonhap) -- North Korea said Thursday that a recent naval skirmish in the Yellow Sea was not accidental but the result of a "conspiracy" planned by the South's military in an attempt to thwart the current mood of dialogue across the border.

The South Korean government calls Tuesday's confrontation the "third naval clash"
following skirmishes in 1999 and 2002, but such a definition is a "shameless rash
act," Rodong Sinmun, the North's major newspaper, said in a commentary carried by
the Korean Central News Agency.
The exchange of gunfire was "not accidental," but "the outcome of a planned
conspiracy" of the South Korean military "seeking to turn inter-Korean relations
toward tension through the means of military provocation," the paper said.
