INDONESIA EXPECTS TO ACHIEVE MORE THAN SEVEN PER CENT GROWTH BY 2014
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Indonesia expects to achieve economic
growth of more than seven per cent by 2014, said Indonesian President Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono.
This year, he said economic growth of 4.3 per cent is expected, which is
much lower than before the economic crisis.
He said to achieve the growth, a five-year action plan or blueprint had been
drafted.
The action plan is based on strengthening infrasturcture such as roads,
ports and power plants throughout Indonesia, Susilo told a luncheon here
Thursday organised by the Council for the Promotion of Malaysia-Indonesia
Relationship (CPMIR), in conjunction with his official visit to Malaysia.
Also present was Prime Minister Najib Razak and CPMIR chairman, Musa Hitam.
Susilo said it was very important to attract foreign investors to Indonesia.
"We need to also reduce the unemployment problem, the poverty gap, enhance
the purchasing power of the people and develop infrastructure. Only with growth
that is sustainable and broadbased, can all this be achieved.
"With that approach, I want the partnership between the governments of
Malaysia and Indonesia to be enhanced as well as that with the private sector,"
he explained.
"Eleven years ago, Indonesia underwent an extraordinary crisis. Our economy
collapsed. Since then, we have aimed to change the direction for the better
based on the principle of change and continuity.
"We are now in that process. There is much that we have not achieved as
yet," he added.
