Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Emergency Ministries hold joint sitting

Taraz, November 13, 2009 (Khabar) - Emergency situations ministries from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have held a joint sitting in Taraz to discuss the measures reducing trans-border emergency situations. Kyrgyzstan and the 9th part of Kazakhstan are in seismically danger area. Seismic stations constantly record minor earthquakes in Kyrgyzstan. Tremors are known to trigger landslides, avalanches and rockslides which are likely to destroy dams and can result in a leakage from radioactive wastes storage facilities 40 of which can be found in Kyrgyzstan. In case of the dam destruction, its content can easily enter trans-border rivers. The Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan is potentially threatened by the Kirovskoye water reservoir. In order to avoid a disaster, the two ministries agreed to timely inform one another and improve their tactical actions. Therefore, Kazakhstan proposed creating a single database.

Vladimir Bozhko, Minister for Emergency situations of RK:
- We have considered the most topical issues of interaction which is necessary due to the similarity of the geographic and industrial state and the presence of possible emergency threats in both countries. We are meant to cooperate in this regard due to such conditions.
