Kazakhstan-Korea IT centre opens

Almaty, November 14, 2009, Khabar - The Kazakhstan-Korea research and education centre for information and communication technologies has been opened in the Kazakh National University of Technology in Almaty. The capacity of this unique computer is 17 teraflops per second, which helps to work out the most difficult tasks and make an analysis of any invention. Scientists are in need of this computer and students are looking forward to trying it out, which is considered to be one of the most modern in the world. 12 multimedia classes will welcome employees of IT companies as well as students and professors for training. Everyone will be able to undergo training.
The area of the complex accounts for 4 thousand square metres and the cost of the project is 6 million US dollars. The cost of construction was divided between the two sides.

Lee Byung Hwa, ambassador of Korea to RK:
- We have started the implementation of agreements such as a programme on the exchange of knowledge. Korean experts are giving advice for the 5 year industrial and innovation development, which, together with the opening of this IT centre, shows the progress of implementation of bilateral agreements.

Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Minister of Education and Science, RK:
- The installation of the supercomputer in this centre is a step towards a breakthrough in the area of information technology.

The first Eurasian school contest will start next week and children from Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia and Uzbekistan will be able to participate in it on-line.
