“Ecology of Kazakhstan” program
Astana, November 17, 2009 (Khabar) - Ministry of Environmental Protection developed a state program “Ecology of Kazakhstan” for 2010-2020. Center “Zhasyl Damu” will be opened and it will manage waste production and consumption. Its main purpose is construction of factories for the production of equipment for recycling.
This has been reported at the governmental hour in the Majilis by the head of environmental department Nurgali Ashimov. According to him, such centers operate in many foreign countries. Kazakhstan, for example, sends persistent organic pollutants for recycling to Germany. Plant on production of equipment for processing costs over 160 million euros. Currently 22 million tons of waste production and consumption of 6 million of them - this is toxic waste are in Kazakhstan. And too little money is allocated for environmental activities. During the first 9 months of this year municipal administration allocated only 17% of the total amount for this purpose from received environmental charges.
Also Nurgali Ashimov has reported work is continued to reduce greenhouse emissions according to the President’s instructions. In addition, the problem of hazardous chemical capacitors, stored at the site “Daryal U” near the town of Balkhash is solved according to the instruction of head of the state.
Nurgali Ashimov, Minister of Environmental Protection of RK:
- After the government signs the decree, I will be a chairman of the committee, we go there and declare an ecological emergency situation. The government will commission the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which will bring guards and policemen there and will begin investigations.
