CHINA AND US READY TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNICATION DIALOGUE AND COOPERATION

BEIJING, Nov 18 (Bernama)-- China and the United States are ready to
strengthen communication, dialogue and cooperation on issues related to the
Asia-Pacific and work together to promote peace, stability and development of
the region.
"Both parties have vast mutual interest in the Asia-Pacific region and
support the establishment of a fully liberal, win-win regional cooperation
framework," said a joint statement issued after a meeting here between Chinese
President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.
The two sides will work together to liberalise regional trade and
investment, promote economic and technological cooperation, as well as support
the ASEAN regional forum in promoting regional security cooperation.
Both sides also agreed to work with other parties to achieve
denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, normalisation of relations to
safeguard peace and stability of northeast Asia through dialogue and
negotiation.
On Iran, both parties agreed that under the non-proliferation treaty, Iran
had the right to utilise nuclear energy for peaceful means, but Iran had to
fulfil regulations and its international obligations.
Both countries also agreed to cooperate in addressing climate change, energy
and environmental issues.
