SEOUL -- Six South Korean tourists were wounded Friday on the Pacific resort
island of Saipan when an unidentified gunman sprayed bullets in a daylight
attack, officials here said.
It remains unclear whether the attacker specifically targeted the South Koreans,
who were visiting a popular tourist.

(LEAD) S. Korea to ease investment rules, entry procedures for tourists
SEOUL/PYEONGCHANG -- South Korea announced Friday plans to ease domestic
investment rules and foreign entry procedures with the aim of tripling inbound
tourism by 2020.
Although the country's tourism sector has held up well despite the economic
crisis -- the number of overseas travelers increased 15 percent this year --
Culture Minister Yu In-chon said new strategies are needed to continue to boost
tourism and stimulate investment.

KT aims to sell up to 500,000 units of iPhone: analyst
SEOUL -- KT Corp., the South Korean distributor of Apple Inc.'s iPhone, is
shooting for total sales of 500,000 units of the smartphone slated to hit the
local market next week, an analyst said Friday.
KT, South Korea's second-largest mobile carrier, is scheduled to begin local
sales of the world's most popular multimedia handset on Nov. 28. The launch comes
after Apple received regulatory approval Wednesday.

Two Thai workers face arrest on drug charges
SEOUL -- Police have requested arrest warrants for two foreign migrant workers
for allegedly smuggling in and selling marijuana to fellow workers, officials
said Friday.
Police also booked 11 other migrant workers on charges of buying the illegal
drug, they said.

S. Korea seeks to allow bond naked short-selling
SEOUL -- South Korea's financial watchdog said Friday it is moving to allow local
and foreign banks to short-sell bonds, a step likely aimed at attracting foreign
bond buying.
South Korea has effectively restricted banks from so-called "naked short
selling," in which investors unload bonds they do not own anticipating price
falls, prodding them instead to beef up risk management.

S. Korean model found dead in Paris
SEOUL -- A South Korean model who had been modeling during fashion week in Paris
and London was found dead at her home in Paris, her agency said Friday.
"We heard from Kim Daul's agent that she was found dead in Paris in the morning,
but there were no further details," Kim's agency in Seoul said. "Her family and
agency officials will head to Paris as soon as possible."

(LEAD) Seoul shares close flat amid investor caution
SEOUL -- South Korean stocks closed almost unchanged Friday as investors remained
on the sidelines amid a lack of market-moving leads, analysts said. The local
currency fell against the U.S. dollar.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 0.06 points to
1,620.6. Volume was thin at 251.3 million shares worth 3.56 trillion won (US$3.07
billion) with gainers leading losers 430 to 341.
