Two Thai workers face arrest on drug charges
SEOUL, Nov. 20 (Yonhap) -- Police have requested arrest warrants for two foreign
migrant workers for allegedly smuggling in and selling marijuana to fellow
workers, officials said Friday.
Police also booked 11 other migrant workers on charges of buying the illegal
drug, they said.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said the two detained workers from Thailand
are accused of smoking marijuana they smuggled in from their home country
starting in July and selling the drug to other workers in Gyeonggi Province.
The two are also accused of using the illegal drug Yaba, which is popular in some
Southeast Asian regions, police said.
Under South Korean law, marijuana users can be sentenced to a maximum of five
years in jail or fined up to 50 million won (US$43,100).
