Astana-Burabai motorway is put to exploitation

Astana, November 21, 2009 (Khabar) - The first motorway in Kazakhstan has been commissioned with Nursultan Nazarbayev checking its quality. The head of state went for a ride along the route, which, according to specialists, corresponds to the best international standards. This road used to be one of the most dangerous roads in the country and every year it witnessed about 70 car accidents with about 30 people killed. Today, the Astana-Burabai road will become one of the safest in the republic, since it is the widest and highest quality road in Kazakhstan. The most important thing is the fact that the road is equipped with barriers, which protect people from oncoming traffic, as well as from animals, which usually cause car accidents.

Alisher Zeineshev, deputy director of "Zubr-21" LLP:
- We all remember our roads of ten years ago. We even didn’t dream about such roads but now they became true. We see - the road is wonderful, we are very pleased, and our President found time and personally has opened the road. The road really cool and very convenient. We can see labor of thousands our builders, our road workers.

Viktor Anoshkin, a driver:
- It's great that this happened, and that our way is not worse than in Germany. I express these words from the bottom of my heart.

One kilometre of this road cost around 500 million tenge. 114, 5 billions were spent for construction of this motorway. Two million tons of cement concrete pavement, twelve million tons of so-called inert material, two and a half million tons of asphalt, 104 culverts were sued and 3,5 000 people worked for almost four years.

Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
- Trafficking will be very busy from the capital to Burabai. About 20 thousand vehicles travel here per day. This road will be chargeable and those who buy expensive cars, will be able to pay 800 tenge per 250 kilometers. In order to maintain the road in good condition.

It is the only road in Kazakhstan where it is possible to drive with speeds of up to 150 kilometres per hour. It is planned to install an electronic system for the establishing traffic control. Moreover, it is planned to equip the road with special banners, which will warn drivers about ice, wind and temperatures. Additionally, it is planned to establish video monitoring. Similar to German motorways, left turns will be allowed only at special interchanges, which amount to 25. These interchanges exclude the possibility of crossing oncoming traffic. Currently, the road is witnessing the construction of service areas. In the near future, it is planned to restore 85% of republican and 70% of local roads.
