MASTER PLAN FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY TO BE READY IN MARCH
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- The Energy Efficiency Master Plan that
provides guidlines and direction for efficient energy use is being drafted and
will be ready in March, said Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter
Chin Fah Kui.
Chin said the plan will be tabled to Cabinet for consideration in the first
quarter of next year.
According to him, the plan involved a comprehensive approach on energy
efficiency in the country in among others the industrial sector, buildings and
public use.
He said cooperation of all sectors was important in ensuring the successful
implementation of the energy usage agenda on efficient use as the world was
facing two main challenges on energy, which were insufficient supply of energy
and being costly; and the negative effect of man on the environment.
"All must cooperate and play their respective roles for the good of the
country and the world," Chin told reporters at the officiating ceremony for the
2009 Efficient Energy Carnival at the Putra World Trade Centre here Saturday.
The two-day carnival being held for the first time is develop awareness on
efficient energy use and provide opportunity to consumers to purchase efficient
energy use appliances at special prices.
In his speech, Chin said although efficient energy use can bring many
benefits, like lower electricity bills, the level of awareness was not
satisfactory in Malaysia.
"Many a time we see lights being left on during the day when daylight was
enough. If we use energy efficiently, the need for electricity generation and
power generation plants would lessen and therefore have less negative effects on
the environment," he said.
On the decision of the Federal Court Friday to allow Tenaga Nasional
Berhad (TNB) to proceed with the upgrading works of high-voltage cables of a
275kV transmission line in Rawang to increase electricity supply in Kuala Lumpur
and the Klang Valley, Chin said residents involved needed to respect the court's
decision.
The Federal Court ruling allowed TNB's appeal to lift an injunction order
obtained by 23 villagers in Kampung Sungai Terentang, Rawang, to halt the
construction of the transmission line through their village.
