TNB RANKED TOP AMONG ASEAN ENERGY FIRMS
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB)
emerges top among Asean energy companies and fourth in Asia in Platts Top 250
Global Energy Companies, a prestigious energy industry award that recognises
outstanding financial performance of top energy companies.
The annual rankings by Platts, a global provider of energy and commodities
information, measures companies' performance in the previous year using four
key metrics -- asset worth, revenue, profit and returns on invested capital.
Among Electric Utilities in Asia, TNB, Malaysia's main energy provider, took
fourth position. It was trailed by other established electric utilities like
Kansai Electric Power, Japan, Chubu Electric Power Co Japan and others.
TNB also earned 123rd spot on overall global performance compared to
100th place in the previous year.
"We have done fairly well considering the 2008 financial year was a tough
period given the volatile global fuel prices and weaker Ringgit," said TNB
President and CEO Che Khalib Mohamad Noh in a statement Friday.
Despite the tough time, he said, they have remained focus in their
strive to serve customers better through improvements in efficiency,
productivity and quality of electricity to TNB customers.
The award was presented at the Platts Top 250 Global Energy Companies Award
in Singapore. TNB was represented by Corporate Communications General Manager
Ismail Abdul Rahman.
