Saving of pine forest in Semey
Semey, November 24, 2009 (Khabar) - Residents of Semey asked several question to Nursultan Nazarbayev during “direct link” with head of the state. The questions concerned victims who suffered from nuclear tests and necessity of preserving of unique natural forest. Citizens received satisfactory answers, and the officials - the appropriate orders. The first – question of Semey residents was whether the state continues to provide social support to those affected by nuclear testing? Nursultan Nazarbayev said: “Over the past few years about 34 billion tenge had been allocated as assistance to those people. In 2003-2009 - about 10 billion tenge, including over 400 million this year.
Meiramhat Ainabekov, Semei mayor:
- 20 years ago this nuclear test site was closeds, but it will long continue to remind itself. Hospitals and health centers with the most modern equipment were built here. And this year we adopted a program for the next three years.
The second question was asked by an old Semey resident, Mikhail Panin, representative of ecological center of Academy of Sciences. It is about the necessity to preserve the unique relic pine forest, caught on the verge of extinction. The reason of it -forest fires and illegal logging, 108 cases of illegal cutting were registered only since the beginning of this year and 6 criminal cases were begun. Damage inflicted by poachers is over 2 million tenge. The President said he knows this problem.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of RK: (November 13, 2009):
- In recent years, the volume reproduction of forests has increased 50 times, with a total area of plantations there increased by nine thousand acres, probably, you know it. Area affected by fires declined in five times during recent years. But the concern is correct, and municipal administration must work at it.
Bauyrzhan Yerdembekov, PhD of philology:
- The President instructed the Minister of Agriculture, mayor of the city and region carefully to study this issue and present suggestions for its solution. We are very grateful for the care and believe that our treasure, this beautiful pine forest will be enjoyed by our descendents.
Yerlan Nysanbaev, chairman of the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife, Ministry of Agriculture of RK:
As part of executing the order of head of state according to the last “direct link”, we plan to hold on November 24 the expanded meeting with municipality with participation of all law enforcement agencies.
The governor of East Kazakhstani region, Berdibek Saparbayev sent to the Prime Minister several proposals on preservation of forest. In particular, he mentioned the possibility of transferring of “Semey Ormany” to the management of the regional administration as now the reserve is under the control of the Ministry of Agriculture. The region also proposed to open a company to clean up the forest from burnt trees. The experts believe it is necessary to carefully protect with law enforcement agencies the forest from those who brutally kills him.
Omarbek Bayuakov, a resident of Families:
- There are such pine forests only in Canada and in our Semey. It is gratifying that the head of state instructed to take care of this forest.
