H1N1 SITUATION IN MALAYSIA STABLE, SAYS WHO DG
CYBERJAYA (Malaysia), Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The World Health Organisation
(WHO) has described the Influenza A(H1N1) situation in Malaysia as stable
compared to the situation in other countries in the northern hemisphere which
are now facing a second wave of the pandemic.
WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan attributed the situation to the steps
taken by the Malaysian government, particularly the Health Ministry, in curbing
the disease.
Dr Chan reminded health authorities, however, to remain vigilant and be on
the alert for the second wave of pandemic.
"Malaysia is blessed with a good system, hence I am confidence that the
government will tackle this issue at their level best if it were to happen," she
said.
In a related matter, she urged medical practitioners in the country to keep
abreast with the latest information provided by the Health Ministry.
She also said that 30 million people worldwide had been vaccinated for the
H1N1 with vaccines produced by 25 companies.
"This not the same as the seasonal flu vaccine used in the past 50 years.
Based on clinical studies and our experience, it is very safe and one dose is
all you need for a full protection," she said.
