KPK RECEIVES BPK'S REPORT ON BANK CENTURY AUDIT

Jakarta, Nov 25 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commision (KPK) on Wednesday received the State Audit Board (BPK)'s report on its investigative audit on the former Bank Century.

"Today KPK received the BPK's audit report," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said.

He said the report was first received by the office's correspondence division which later handed it over to the secretariat of the KPK leadership.

The KPK leadership would study it to determine what should be done next.

Budi declined to explain the substance of the report or neither confirmed if the report was the same as the one submitted to the House of Representatives (DPR) recently.

BPK earlier submitted its audit report regarding the flow of Rp6.7 trillion worth of bailout funds to former Bank Century to DPR.

BPK did not trace possible flows of the funds to other parties. BPK chairman Hadi Purnomo said BPK did not do it because it could not obtain total data about it from the Center of Financial Transactions Analysis and Reports (PPATK) because PPATK could only produce it to investigators.

Several anticorruption activists have urged for the disclosure of the PPATK data.

The coordinator of the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), Danang Widoyoko, said so far BPK had only met the DPR's request while KPK had also asked BPK to conduct an audit on the bank. So, he said, KPK had a right to ask PPATK to trace the flow of the funds based on its audit request.

"KPK must be proactive," he said.

ICW legal researcher Febri Diansyah said KPK had to be quick to respond because many quarters had considered the BPK not maximal.

"KPK as a law enforcement agency must understand that it also has to ask for a report from PPATK with regard to the funds," he said.

She said KPK had a right to ask for a help from PPATK because from the beginning the two agencies had often cooperated and even in the case of Bank Century KPK had also conducted a study.

Febri did not agree if the Century case was handled by the police and the attorney general office. She said the two offices were still conducting internal changes in connection with middlemen problems.
"Do not let scandals to happen in dealing with the Century case," she said.

The chairman of the Indonesia Legal Aid Institute Foundation (YLBHI), Patra M Zen, said KPK had to open the track records of the handling of the Bank Century case so far so that the public would know how far it had gone and what kind of data the KPK would still need.

He agreed with the view that KPK had to move quickly and be proactive to ask for data on the Bank Century case to PPATK.

"I think there is no reason for PPATK to reject the request," he said.

In response to the calls Johan said KPK would study if it needed data from PPATK, after studying the BPK report.

What is certain is, Johan said, KPK had already signed a memorandum of understanding with PPATK regarding the tracing of financial transactions linked to corruption cases.

He said KPK would also coordinate with the police and the attorney general's office especially with regard to what the two offices had done in connection with the Bank Century case.***4***
