Conference of gender equality
Astana, November 26, 2009 (Khabar) - During the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the OSCE in 2010, the country is to pay attention to issues of gender equality and Astana has witnessed a conference devoted to this issue. The head of the OSCE centre in Astana, Aleksandr Kelchevskiy believes that the adoption of a law on the prevention of domestic violence and gender equality is one of the latest achievements of Kazakhstan in this area. The chairman of the National Commission for Women’s Affairs and Family-Demographics Policy, Gulshara Abdikalykova noted that currently in Kazakhstan, 54 thousand women are working as civil servants.
In Parliament, the number of women accounts for 20% and in local government, there are women in 17% of the positions.
Gulshara Abdikalikova, chairman, National Commission for Women Affairs and Family-Demographic Policy under President of RK:
- The level of civilization of the state is judged by how the state treats women, children and elderly people. In our country, due to the social policy of the head of state, Nursultan Nazarbayev does everything so that women can occupy a decent place in society.
Madina Dzharbusynova, ambassador, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RK:
- The protection of women’s rights is one of the main priorities of the domestic policy of our country and is within the focus of the president’s attention. In general, this issue will become a priority of our policy during the chairmanship in the OSCE. I believe that we will be successful since the organization is paying significant attention to gender equality and in this connection the total interest and approaches to the resolution of these issues could yield excellent results.
